Reclassification of MFS Emerging Market Debt Fund under SFDR

MFS Meridian Funds (the “Company”) has notified us of its intention to reclassify its MFS Meridian Emerging Market Debt Fund (the “Fund”) from Article 6 to Article 8 under Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (the "SFDR"). This will take effect 28 August 2023 (the “Effective Date”).

This Fund can be found in our defined fund range products Oracle, Quantum (including Malaysia variants), Paragon, Regular Savings Plan (including Malaysia variants), LifePlan, Protected Lifestyle and Kudos (the “Affected Products”).

 

SUMMARY OF CHANGES

 

A number of sub funds of the Company are designated under and comply with Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 2019/2088 of 27 November 2019 on sustainability related disclosures in the financial sector. As of the Effective Date, the following share classes held in the Affected Products will change from Article 6 to Article 8 under SFDR:

Article 8 of SFDR requires the disclosure of additional information where an environmental or social characteristic is promoted. As of the Effective Date, the Fund will promote (i) the MFS Emerging Markets Sovereign Characteristic* with respect to their government and government-related debt issuers, and (ii) the MFS Low Carbon Transition Characteristic** with respect to their corporate debt issuers.

 

The Fund will maintain at least 50% of the sovereign and corporate debt instruments in the portfolio invested in (i) sovereign debt issuers that meet at least one of the five indicators under MFS Emerging Markets Sovereign Characteristic* and (ii) corporate debt issuers that meet at least one of the four climate criteria described under MFS Low Carbon Transition Characteristic**
